Val works mostly in acrylic, but she surprises us every once in a while with a watercolour. We look forward to bringing you a new show with gift giving in mind. When our show opens we will have 24 artists and 3 authors. You can also check out our Performing Artists on the web - we have 5! For a small island gallery, we are growing by leaps and bounds. #pierslife #yyjart #originalart #gifts Our new show opening tomorrow has had a few "passing whim" visits and there are red dots in place already!
Tapestry of Textiles exemplifies the unique and vast opportunities that textiles provide to the artist. Christina van der Kamp presents a Core Samples series of Water, Wood and Soil - 15 gorgeous paintings in upcycled/recycled textiles. Miles Lowry brings us sculpture in cast cotton, then embellished with mineral pigments. We have several Torso pieces both in full size and miniature available. Also in cast cotton from the Amphora Series are several pieces done in collaboration with Georgia Angelopoulos. Each tell a story. David Ferguson brings us several of his works incorporating cast cotton, acrylic and mineral pigments. The texturing and vibrancy will amaze and entrance you. Eileen Currie's textile work is also another example of the versatility of textiles. Her bags and bowls are machine stitched and use both fabric and cotton clothesline. Unfortunately, we only have one of Eileen's market bags to show you at this time. The show opens tomorrow at 2 pm and we'll be open weekends from 2-4 pm and always by appointment, or drop by on a passing whim. We are following COVID safety rules and limiting to 3 in the gallery at a time and masks are a must. Make an appointment for your bubble and you can visit mask free. And no masks are required for Zoom or Facetime visits. Our PIG reopening had to be pushed back to November 21st, 2020 and we are looking forward to unveiling new works from our artists. The PIGSTY will once again be tidy and lovely, festooned with treasures for the special people on your list. COVID isolation time has spurred some artists on, but has also kept some from returning to Piers and still others from finding their muse. For all artists, it has been a difficult time, as art is created to be shared. We will be sharing with you safely and ask you to wear a mask. We remind our patrons that we are more than happy to offer private viewings for you, your family and friends whenever they might visit Piers. We hope to see you for the opening on November 21st 2-4 pm and over the next few weeks as you look for special things for special people. #originalart #shoplocal #carvings #paintings #sculpture #fusedglass #metalart #textileart #photography
After a delayed opening...PIG opened the doors again on Thursday December 6th showing off the beautiful new creations of her talented artists. Here are just a few images of pieces that are still available to fulfill wishes on your Christmas list. We'll have some new kelp weavings in from Grant Warrington next weekend...your last weekend before Christmas. :) In our fast paced, instant gratification world...the art of oils is disappearing. The time, the detail, the layers of pigment on canvas are richly displayed in the works of Evey Gabille & Mary Jordan. We invite you to enjoy their art. Mary has many originals available for purchase with a sampling of giclees on canvas for her popular pieces. Evey has given us many beautiful pieces to show you, but she's not parting with most of them, however, giclees may be ordered.
Opening night is Friday June 29th from 7-9 pm The exhibition will continue to July 15th - the gallery will be open weekends 2-4 pm and available by appointment. Lone Gardner is a Piers Island artist who spends her life between Piers and Calgary, Alberta. Her subject matter of gardens, mountains and seas all share a unique and appealing palette of colours and a painterly feel. She paints with acrylic on canvas and all work in the show will be originals and available for purchase. We invite you to take in Lone's work and meet the artist on Friday May 18th between 7 and 9 pm. PIG will also be open Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 pm and please feel free to call for a private showing. We are pleased to be able to offer high quality giclee prints on canvas of Valerie Rolfe's newest works. Printing is done using premium inks on canvas, stretched onto either 1.5 inch boards, or .75 inch boards. The deeper boards give what's termed as a "gallery wrap" finish that is not usually framed and ready to hang. If you prefer to frame your art, the .75 inch depth would be your choice, but it will be ready to hang as well. If no choice is indicated in the order form below - the piece will be "gallery wrap" depth. All canvases are then finished with a varnish coat to protect them. These will be produced in various Limited Editions quantities of 30. Please email for Giclee Pricing ![]() You’re Mine On Canvas - 18 x 12 On Canvas - 24 x 16 On Canvas – Original size 36 x 24 On paper - 8 x 10 with mat ![]() Takaya Napping On Canvas - 16 x 8 On Canvas – original size 20 x 16 1.5 inch depth or .75 depth When I look at all the wonderful artwork by our talented Piers Island artists I can't help but hum...here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus! :) We do try and keep the artist pages updates with new work and prices, but if there's anything you see that strikes your fancy and you'd like more information, please contact us. We can arrange delivery before Christmas for you. PIG will be open by appointment Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. We hope to open Saturday December 23rd - but weather conditions may prevent this. A small hazard of island living with the holidays approaching.
Wishing you all the best for the holiday season and an art filled New Year! Long weekends are a busy time for friends and families and if you bring yours to Piers, pop by PIG and have a look. New work is coming and going all the time, so there is likely something new for you to see.
Watch for the PIG flag Saturday from 2-4 pm and Sunday from 1-3 pm. Friday and Monday, please feel free to call even if the flag is not flying. |
